Fathers' Day
Father's Day is chiefly a world wide holiday brought into being in the early 20th century to be a foil for Mother's Day. The day is a celebration of fatherhood and single parenting by males and homage to fathers and forefathers. Father's Day is celebrated on an array of dates worldwide and predictably involves gift-giving to fathers and various family involving and family binding activities.

History
In the US , the source of power behind instituting the celebration of Father's Day was Sonora Dodd of Washington first conceived the idea of recognizing a father's day after eavesdropping to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Sonora wanted to devote a singular day to honor her father William Smart. Smart a Civil War veteran was a strong man, widowed after his wife died when sixth child was born. And he paid all the duties of being a single father to the newborn and five other siblings, while working on a rural farm. Since Sonora 's father was a June born, she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane , Washington on the June 19, 1910.
President Lyndon Johnson in 1966 signed a presidential statute and after President Richard Nixon signed it in 1972, the third Sunday of June as Father's Day was affirmed.
