Halloween celebrations
Halloween is the modern name for Samhain—an ancient Celtic holy day which many Neopagans, especially Wiccans, Druids and Celtic Reconstructionists—celebrate as a spiritual initiation of a new year. The Christian communities celebrate the festival in three parts: Halloween on 31st October, All Hallows or All Saints Day on 1st November and All Souls Day on 2nd November.
Tradition
A time to meet head-on with an individual interpretation of the death and pay cultural tribute to those whose departure was witnessed by those alive
A time to bring to light the digression of materialistic world to the spiritual world, and then to spread out spiritual insight about the past and the futures
A time to excavate the human connection to the progressive circle of the seasons, the generations before us and those that will follow and the Supernatural being we pray to.
A time to let the child in all of us go boundless, and teach our upbringing traditions to our children and share the fun of growing up
Origin
The word with its origins in the Catholic Church is drawn from a tapered form of All Hallows Eve. All Hollows Day or All Saints Day on November 1, a Catholic day of observance was celebrated in honor of saints. But in the fifth century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year and since then it became time-honored as Halloween Day.
Halloween came into being as an outcome of the tradition of Celts celebrating a new year, and out of medieval prayer rituals of Europeans. And as a turnout many churches organize Halloween parties and pumpkin carving pomp shows for the kids. On balance, the day would only get mean only if one is mull over to make it mean.
Activities
The costumes are a highlight of the day. Don by enthusiastic open-minded participants, they give an overall look of older times, an endeavor to entertain all. This may be by the way of amusement or fear. The costumes are often lent in the feeling of competition with others in aspects of beauty, hilarity, eccentricity and dressing skills.
As a conventional act of trade, children dress up and defeat their phobia of strangers by swapping for a candy. And adults buy the candy and triumph over their disbelief of strange children. The true meaning of Halloween thus comes with this interchange which works to disentangle ourselves from our fears and endorse our social bond with the neighborhood.

Halloween became a holiday in modern times for which all the excitement was about scaring the hell out by being commonsensical. To encourage this, modern fabrication has added new fiends to the American mix, roping in various ghouls, psychopathic killers, mummies, vampires and werewolves. These are not images anyone actually needs to perpetuate, but the teens certainly enjoy them.
That’s what American Neopagans will do on a Samhain. No cruelty, no brutality or any sort of transgression is associated with the day. It’s just blameless and virtuous, all-American festivity with some ceremonial additions appropriate to the season and current events.
