History

Around 1944, Mattye Whyte Woodridge, a teacher in Arkansas , began communicating with educational and political lot about the need and wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt about it. On March 7, 1980 , 81st Congress declared a National Teacher Day only for that year. Later on NEA representative assembly voted to make Tuesday of the first full week of May as National Teacher's Day.
