Cousin
A cousin is the term given to a brother or sister who is a child to the parent’s sibling. As such a cousin is one’s brother or sister from the maternal or paternal side. For this particular brother or sister the parents have a strong affection as this person is their sibling’s child. However some children and most adults do not have a very strong bond with the cousins. Generally, the closeness depends on the interaction and is more like a friendship. The relationship can sometimes be only based on family functions and is maintained to keep the parents happy.
Since, this relationship is a distant one the gifts are also exchanged rarely and are generally supposed to be cost effective since they are exchanged on a formal occasion.
These are the occasions for exchange of gifts to cousin:
Christmas/ FestivalBirthday function for which one is invited
Wedding of the cousin
House warming party or a get together
Birth of a child
Social achievement for which a party might be organized
There is a wide range of gifts that can be given to a cousin but the choice depends upon whether the cousin is a male or a female and also on the budget. These gifts are inexpensive when it comes to their costing and are supposed to be price effective.
Decorative items such as show pieces etc.Flowers, cakes, pastries and greeting cards.
Clothes but since the taste is generally unknown a gift voucher to buy clothes is a better option. If it’s a female cousin then a hand bag is a good gift and for a male cousin a wallet can be the alternative.]
Wine or any type of alcohol.
Glass ware or utility items for household.
Cash is also a useful alternative.
Books, novels or cookbooks depending upon the taste and the need can always be gifted. A gift certificate can be another option.
For female cousin cosmetics, perfumes etc can be good gifts, and for a male cousin also perfumes can be a good gift.
A paid short trip that is cost effective is also an excellent gift. Movie tickets, tickets to a game or a play can be a great gift.
